Student Activities Fee Survey Prize Winners!

Thanks to everyone who put in the time to fill out our survey, it was one of the largest responses we've had in recent years!   The opinions that were expressed not only in the multiple choice questions but also the many open comments that were submitted have been critical in shaping our understanding of our responsibilities to the student body.  The student government at Western is excited to start making changes to reflect the data we have collected from everyone.  Here are the lucky students who were drawn as prize winners at the Feb. 6th General Assembly:

Grand Prize: Parking Pass - Benno Steinbrink

2nd Prize: PC - Christina Sievert

3rd Prize: $50 Campus Shop Gift Card - Amber Norris

4th Prize: 2 $15 Gift Cards to Wellness Center - Michael Atchley

5th Prize: Free Massage from Absolutely Therapeutic - Kylie White

6th Prize: $10 + Coffee Mug from Union Market - Amanda Coughlin

Prize winners be sure to stop by Ge Vang's office in K100 to pick up your prizes!

Thanks again to everyone participated to make this survey a success!

Student Activity Fees Survey Starts Next Week! Win Prizes!

The Appropriations Committee has finished the Student Activity Fees Survey.  Student activity fees are collected as 5.5% of each student's tuition and put towards extra curricular opportuinites for students on campus.  It's getting to be that time again where we want to ask everyone to take five or ten minutes and give us advice on how better manage their money.

We will spend this week getting the survey online, and getting our prizes together.  Oh, did I say prizes?  Yes, individual drawings for great spring semester treats like:

  • A $50 gift card for the Campus Shop
  • Gift cards to the Wellness Center
  • A computer system from Computer Services
  • A general parking pass

...And several other prizes to be won by individual random drawing at the end of the survey when spring semester starts.

We hope you all get a chance to spend five to ten minutes to tell us what you think, and get entered in our drawing.  At the very least, you spend five minutes and nothing more, and maybe you win a computer.

We look forward to the feedback.  Thanks in advance!

Hello From Budget & Appropriations Committee!

Budget & Appropriations Committee meets for one hour every two weeks from 2:30-3:30 in the student government office (K100C) starting on Oct. 4th.

This year, Budget & Appropriations Committee will primarily be handling the responsibility of reviewing the allocation of the annually collected student activity fees between the various student activity groups, then adjust the budget accordingly for the next academic year.  The student activities fee is a fee that every student pays, calculated at 5.5% of tuition.  The groups or services that are paid for by the student activities fee each year are athletics, the Wellness Center, Campus Events, student activities at Regional Learning Centers, Student Government programs such as Academic Affairs and state legislation lobbying, and of course, the Student Club and Organization Activity and Travel Grants.

Another important function of this year's Budget and Appropriations Committee will be to assess and re-administer the Student Activities Fee Survey, which was administered last in the 2009-2010 academic year to determine the student body's opinion on how student government was spending the activities fee.  This year, we are looking at the results of that last survey and comparing those results to the changes in spending since then.  We will also be determining a new format for the survey as well as designing an effective means of administering the survey.  This must be done by the end of the fall semester, so that we can properly plan the events of the following year to best reflect the wishes of the student body as a whole.

These of course are not our only year long agenda items, but they are the real big ticket problems that we need the most help with.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me.  Hope to see you there!
