Vote Jon For Vice President
Hello, my name is Jon York and I am running for Student Government Vice President. I have represented the students at Western Technical College on the state and local level by attending the Wisconsin Student Government (WSG) meetings multiple times advocating for student rights. If elected as Vice President, I want to make sure the students' voices are heard as to obtain, and maintain, a positive attitude amongst, not only the students, but the faculty as well. I will also work to get students more involved with clubs/organizations and Student Government committees. My leadership skills pertain to the following: I am the current Student Government Public Relations Officer, Student Executive Board Member, and Student Government/Senior Leadership Team. Please get out and vote April 22nd-26th in the Student Life Office (K100) or online at westernstudents.org. Feel free to stop by the Student Government Office to talk or to just say hello.
I thank you in advance for your support!

The End of an Era – Student Government President, Gina Davis, Resigns!
I would like to thank all of you for an amazing term last academic school year. It was one of the most fulfilling and rewarding times in my life. The skills that I have learned, the friendships that I have made, and the memories that I will keep, will be with me forever. And so, it is with great sorrow that I am resigning as Student Government President.
Life has taken an incredible turn in a positive direction, and I have found myself working for an outstanding company where I have been offered a fulltime, supervisory position, which falls right in line with the Supervisory Management Associates Degree I am currently working on. After all, this is why we are all going to Western, to obtain the technical skills to make us employable in a field that is not only competitive, but also something that we will enjoy. And I really do enjoy my new career in hotel management.
The student leaders that have served as the Student Government Executive Board are an outstanding group of individuals. It has been my honor and privilege to call them my team, my friends, and even my family.
Please show your support to Sandy Schulz, who will be taking over as the Student Government President and to Jamie Nordstrom, who will be taking over as the Student Government Vice President. They are both exceptional examples of student leaders and will serve the student body well in their roles.
As we go through this transition phase, and while training is ongoing, I will be available for questions, comments, and concerns. All business, however, will now be going through Sandy. Please contact her at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . I will officially no longer be your Student Government President as of July 31st, 2012
With the transition of my resignation and subsequent position changes, this leaves a few seats open on the Executive Board. If you are interested in becoming part of the team please refer to Sandy or Ge Vang (Student Government Adviser) for more information.
Positions Open – Immediately
· Secretary
· Public Relations
· Campus Events Coordinator
Positions Open – In the Fall
· Lt. Governor
Again, it has been an honor and a privilege to have served the students at Western.
If anyone wishes to reach me after July 31st, 2012, you may do so by contacting me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
Respectfully,
Gina Davis

Adam Grabowski's Comedy Performance

We thought that Adam Grabowski was very entertaining. He was funny and made people laugh. There was not a full house, but the 20 or so people that watched seemed to be entertained by Adam. Students passing by stopped for a couple of minutes to see what was going on. All in all, it was a nice event.
Thanks to everyone who was able to make it!
We are looking forward to seeing you on April 30 @ Spring Fling (Lunda Center)
Nelly's Echo

This past Feb 13, Campus Events Committee was proud to welcome Nelly's Echo to the Union Market stage during the open hour. Singer-songwriter and guitarist Nelson Emokpae played about an hour set with Robin Cardell on a djembe (African drum). The set consisted of Nelly's original music peppered with samples of popular covers that had much of the crowd entertained and joining in; particularly as he surprised them with a subtly placed short verse from the theme song of Fresh Prince of Bel Air before he quickly segwayed back into his original material. We are glad that so many people came out. The Union Market stage area was full for almost the whole show, so much so that Nelly's Echo ran out of copies of their full length album "Secrets to a Happy Life."
Thanks again to everyone that made time to see the show, we hope you enjoyed it! Look forward to our next musical event at this year's Spring Fling on April 30th at the Lunda Center featuring Madison area band A Torrid Affair who play a laid back, multifaceted folk/acoustic style featuring some beautiful violin work. As always, be sure to stay tuned to WesternStudents.org and our NEW FACEBOOK page for all your campus events info!

Student Activity Fees Survey Starts Next Week! Win Prizes!
The Appropriations Committee has finished the Student Activity Fees Survey. Student activity fees are collected as 5.5% of each student's tuition and put towards extra curricular opportuinites for students on campus. It's getting to be that time again where we want to ask everyone to take five or ten minutes and give us advice on how better manage their money.
We will spend this week getting the survey online, and getting our prizes together. Oh, did I say prizes? Yes, individual drawings for great spring semester treats like:
- A $50 gift card for the Campus Shop
- Gift cards to the Wellness Center
- A computer system from Computer Services
- A general parking pass
...And several other prizes to be won by individual random drawing at the end of the survey when spring semester starts.
We hope you all get a chance to spend five to ten minutes to tell us what you think, and get entered in our drawing. At the very least, you spend five minutes and nothing more, and maybe you win a computer.
We look forward to the feedback. Thanks in advance!
